Now in its 7th year, the Tawas Point Birding Festival has gained nationwide recognition as a top destination for observing spring bird migration.

More than 250 birders registered for the festival and flocked to Tawas and Oscoda communities in 2011.

The support of residents and local businesses has helped build the excitement for bird watching opportunities in the area. You can help bring even more birders—and tourist dollars—to the Michigan communities of Tawas and Oscoda during the 2012 Tawas Point Birding Festival weekend.

2011 Festival Sets New Records

Over 250 registered participants enjoyed four days of guided birding, workshops, seminars, and birder camaraderie during the 2011 Tawas Point Birding Festival. The attendance is a record for the festival, and we expect even more birders to experience the world-class birding on Lake Huron in 2012.

Another record that was broken was the species list for the weekend. A combined total of 174 species were recorded by birders at sights throughout Iosco County, including Tawas Point, Clark’s Marsh, Tuttle Marsh, and the old Air Force base. Many thanks to all of the volunteers who helped make the weekend possible.

Don & Lillian Stokes headline TPBF ’11

Don and Lillian stokes will be on hand Friday evening, May 13, to present the all-new Stokes Field Guide To The Birds Of North America.

The Stokes’ presentation will inform banquet attendees how it was designed for the birder of today. Six years in the making, and covering 854 species with over 3,400 color photos, this is the most comprehensive, national photographic field guide ever published. In their lively presentation, Don and Lillian will take you behind the scenes into what’s involved in producing a work of this magnitude, teach you how to fast-forward your bird identification skills, and show favorite photos from the book, taken by Lillian.
