Ploverized at the Point (Saturday, May 17 @ 10 AM – Noon)
Join Peggy Ridgway for this in-depth look at the Great Lakes Piping Plover. During the past five years Peggy has taken an active role in monitoring the endangered birds in her area. In the summer of 2013 an unprecedented six nests were established at Tawas Point. Peggy helped step up efforts to supply additional monitors to keep watch on nest sites and educate visitors to the Point on the plight of the plovers.
This workshop will touch on the current status of the plovers, habitat requirements, predator disturbance, banding data, habitat requirements, and wintering ground information. Participants will also walk along the Lake Huron shoreline to view previous nest sites and watch for plovers actively establishing territory.
FEE: $10
LOCATION: Pavilion at Tawas Point State Park
